overview I am a cardiovascular epidemiologist with expertise in cardiology, epidemiology, and health services research. Throughout my career, I have dedicated my efforts to advancing the field of population electrocardiography, specifically focusing on enhancing the methodology of electrocardiogram (ECG) recording in population studies and leveraging ECG markers for the evaluation and prediction of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. Currently, I am a tenured professor of cardiology and serve as the director of the EPICARE ECG Center, the ECG reading center for numerous NIH-funded studies. This includes ARIC, MESA, CARDIA, HCHS/SOL, ACCORD, SPRINT, LookAHEAD, and various others. By harnessing the extensive data derived from these studies, my team and I have successfully developed a plethora of innovative ECG markers that predict various cardiovascular diseases, including heart failure, sudden cardiac death, coronary heart disease, stroke, and atrial fibrillation. In terms of ECG methodology, I have established comprehensive normative reference ranges for heart rate variability derived from resting ECG, formulated a novel PR-heart-rate correction formula, devised advanced techniques for quality control during ECG recording in population studies, and invented an ECG cable that effectively minimizes switching errors during recording.
